Desalination processes can be classified into two groups:
- phase-change process
- homogeneous, single-phase process
One of the most common processes is the process of reverse osmosis and this process comprises the following phases:
- Phase I – PRETREATMENT (disinfection, flocculation with specific chemicals and filtration)
- Phase II – DESALINATION (removing the salt and other minerals from sea water)
- – Phase III – POSTTREATMENT (chlorination and correction of the pH values)
